Amancio Ortega Gaona was born on March 28, 1936 in Busdongo de Arbas, León. At the age of 14, he moved to A Coruña, Spain with his father, a railway worker. He started out at the very bottom as a gofer selling shirts out of a store. In 1963, he founded Confecciones Goa, a business that sold bathrobes. In 1975, he opened a clothing store called Zara. It eventually expanded, with over 1,500 stores across the country.
Louis Vuitton and Daniel Piette described Ganoa as “possibly the most innovative and devastating retailer in the world.” He went from having very little to becoming the richest man in Spain, and the 10th richest man in the world. Amancio Ortega Gaona did it…why can’t you?
